City of London celebrates Shaedon Sharpe's commitment to community with free, weekly sponsored basketball drop-in

The City of London is excited to announce the launch of the Shaedon Sharpe Drop-In Basketball Program, offering youth in London the opportunity to participate in free, weekly basketball sessions at Carling Heights Optimist Community Centre

As a member of the local community who has soared to stardom as a professional basketball player, 20-year-old NBA star Shaedon Sharpe is set to give back to his hometown of London, Ontario through this sponsored drop-in program.

“When I was growing up, some of my best childhood memories were hanging with my friends and shooting hoops on a Friday night. I knew if I ever went pro, I wanted to make sure kids in my hometown had a safe place to hang out and have fun while playing basketball, whether they were just starting out or taking their game to the next level,” says Shaedon Sharpe. “It’s amazing that I’m in a position to give back like this, it means so much to me knowing I have the ability to help out and maybe even inspire the next generation of basketball players coming out of London.”

Starting Friday, January 19, this free drop-in program will be offered every Friday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Carling Heights Optimist Community Centre. The program is open to youth ages 10 to 17.

“This sponsorship, a testament to Sharpe's commitment to community development, is a source of pride for the City of London and a shining example of the positive impact athletes can have on their hometowns,” says Mayor Josh Morgan. “These sessions promise an exceptional opportunity for London's youth to experience more free recreation opportunities that will build on a thriving basketball culture in the city.”

Please note space is limited, and registration is required for these sessions. For more information and to register for upcoming sessions, please visit london.ca/Sharpe.
