Last night, London City Council recognized Mohamed Goha and Lily Spoozak as the 2020 recipients of the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship. This $2,000 scholarship, awarded annually, recognizes two high school students with the highest scholastic achievement based on the average of the student’s best six subjects in their graduating year.
Mohamed Goha graduated with an average of 99.50% from Saunders Secondary School and recently started his first year studying Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo. He enjoys playing basketball, crafting paper helmets and experimenting with technology. Goha has already been recognized by the University of Waterloo, receiving the President’s Scholarship of Distinction. He hopes to pursue a career at either Tesla or Apple.
Lily Spoozak graduated from Catholic Central High School with a 99.50% average and recently started her first year studying Medical Sciences at Dalhousie University. Spoozak enjoys track and field, volleyball and playing the saxophone, and was the winner of the 2020 London and Middlesex SPECTRA Award. She hopes to pursue a future career as a surgeon.
“Congratulations to Mohamed and Lily on the hard work and dedication you demonstrated through your academic achievements,” said Mayor Ed Holder. “We wish both of you the best of luck in your post-secondary education this fall.”
Sponsored by the Corporation of the City of London, the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship was established in 1981 to recognize academic excellence among graduating London high school students pursuing post-secondary education.
