City continues to tackle tree damage and clean up after recent storm

Last weekend, London experienced significant and severe tree damage as a result of Saturday’s storm. The extent of the damage was city-wide but there are some neighbourhoods that experienced more intense tree damage and loss.

To date, approximately 450 service requests related to tree damage have been received but this number does not reflect the total trees damaged, which is much larger. City crews continue to assess and address trees on roads and have been responding to urgent issues on a priority basis. Initial priorities included blocked roads and trees on houses, structures or vehicles. All available resources have been dedicated to these priorities.

Timelines remain difficult to determine with significant work underway and yet to be assessed in parks and natural areas where the tree damage is also substantial. All storm-related clean up including restoration of areas, stump removal, etc., is anticipated to take many weeks to complete.

Reminders for the public:

  • Tree issues on public property (storm or wind damage, tree trimming or inspection requests, etc.) can be submitted on service.london.ca.
  • Damaged or fallen tree limbs on private property are the responsibility of the homeowner.
  • Yard waste, brush and tree limbs placed out for Green Week (curbside) collection must follow existing curbside collection criteria such as tree limbs must be 10 cm or less and 1 metre in length. Brush must be tied in bundles. Check your collection calendar for Green Week dates.
  • Please do not block the sidewalk or roadway with yard waste.
  • Larger yard waste, brush and tree limbs can be brought to a local EnviroDepot during operating hours.

We appreciate your patience.
