Candidates can begin filing nominations next week

Monday, May 2 is the first day candidates can file nominations for London’s Municipal Elections which take place on October 24, 2022.  Nominations will be accepted for the role of mayor, councillors representing 14 wards, and school board trustees.

Along with their nomination forms, candidates running for mayor or city council will also be required to submit a form with signatures of 25 eligible voters who support the nomination and pay a filing fee.

Nominations will be accepted at the Elections Office, located on the 2nd floor of City Hall, Monday to Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays. The final day to file a nomination, Nomination Day, is Friday, August 19 before 2:00 p.m.

Candidates must file in-person, as no electronic filing option is available. Following the filing and acceptance of their nomination by the Elections Office, candidates can begin campaigning.

Monday is also the first day for third party advertisers to register at the Elections Office. If a person, corporation or trade union intends to spend money between May 2, 2022, and Election Day, on advertisements or other materials that support, promote or oppose a candidate in the municipal election, or a question on the ballot, they are required to register as a third party advertiser with the City Clerk.

London’s 2022 Municipal Elections will be conducted using the First-past-the-post voting method.
