Building Division hiring to support Council’s pledge to build more homes

Through the More Homes, Built Faster: Ontario’s Housing Supply Action Plan 2022–2023 the City of London has pledged to create 47,000 dwelling units by 2031. London was the first municipality in Ontario to confirm its housing pledge to the province.

In order to support meeting that pledge, the building division is hiring 11 additional staff members, including: building inspectors, drawing reviewers, and other support staff. These new staff are being hired in anticipation of increased building permit applications.

“This Council has developed a Housing Supply Action Plan and we are accelerating that work,” says Mayor Josh Morgan. “The City of London’s plan includes utilizing the full resources of the corporation in a manner that’s designed to increase planning and approval requirements. Hiring more building staff will help us reach our goals.”
