Another London tow truck operator receives licence suspension

The business licence for a local tow truck operator has been suspended following an incident in early July which resulted in London Police Service laying charges.

Today, White Oaks Towing Corp. received notice of a licence suspension restricting the business from operating at accident scenes on a highway or other property of the municipality or its local boards for a period of 28 days, beginning 11:59 p.m. on Thursday July 20, 2023.

The suspension results from a driver for the company being charged with excessive speed and stunt driving, which resulted in the vehicle’s licence plates being seized, the vehicle being impounded for 14 days, and the driver’s licence being suspended for 30 days.

This suspension follows additional licence suspensions from earlier this month: City suspends two more tow truck operators

“Driving at excessive speeds poses dangers to public safety and the City of London has zero tolerance for operators driving aggressively to be the first tow truck to arrive at the scene of an accident,” says Orest Katolyk, Director of Municipal Compliance and Chief Municipal Law Enforcement Officer. “We will continue to work side-by-side with London Police Service and, when warranted, suspend the licence of companies engaged in this dangerous and reckless behaviour to send a clear message that it will not be tolerated.”

Residents are also reminded that companies towing from the scene of a collision are required to be licenced, and you can choose whichever company you wish to use for a tow–you don’t have to use the first one on scene. A full list of licensed operators is available on our website at London.ca/Tow.
