The 28th annual London Cares Curb Hunger Campaign collects equivalent of 87,800 pounds of food

With the compassion and support shown by residents, businesses and community partners, the London Cares Curb Hunger Campaign collected the equivalent of 87,800 pounds of food between May 29 to June 8, 2024. The Curb Hunger Campaign is now in its 28th year and is the longest running partnership of its kind in Canada.

Fresh food will continue to arrive at the London Food Bank throughout the summer months from both partners that are involved with urban agriculture and from Londoners that grow their own food in backyard or other areas.

“I would like to thank the Londoners who participated in the 28th London Cares Curb Hunger Campaign and donated to help fellow residents,” says Mayor Josh Morgan. “Our community has, yet again, shown immense compassion by helping the London Food Bank collect fresh, locally sourced, and healthy food to support our community this summer. Your efforts and donations make a difference, and I’m proud that Londoners continue to come together for this important cause.”

The breakdown of the 87,800 pounds is as follows:

Drop-offs to grocery stores, fire halls and the London Food Bank = 17,030 pounds

Corporate donations = 24,625 pounds

Community Refresh program = 25,625 pounds

Financial donations ($72,231.23 at $3.52 per pound as reported by Food Banks Canada) = 20,520 pounds (equivalent)

“We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who were able to donate for the 28th London Cares Curb Hunger Campaign,” says Glen Pearson, Co-Director of the London Food Bank. “Every year, the Campaign has been successful in helping London Food Bank collect fresh food for individuals and families in need, especially during summer months. We encourage the residents, businesses and community partners to donate to the London Food Bank, if and whenever they can, so everyone can have access to nutritious food throughout the year.”

The annual campaign raises awareness of the London Food Bank and the need for support during the summer months, which is traditionally a slower period for food donations. The Curb Hunger Campaign supports more than 29,000 individuals in need of food.
