As the Victoria Day long weekend approaches, the City of London is reminding residents who wish to discharge consumer fireworks (backyard displays) this holiday weekend to please keep safety top of mind and follow the Fireworks By-law .
“This long weekend, it's important to remember that fireworks are permitted exclusively on Monday, May 20, from sundown until 11:00 p.m. in celebration of Victoria Day," says Mayor Josh Morgan. "Let's ensure our festivities are safe and respectful by adhering to these regulations. Any unauthorized fireworks display will be met with enforcement measures and potential fines.”
“We are advising anyone who’s planning to host a backyard fireworks display, to ensure there is a safe and adequate distance away from any structures or trees, to take every safety precaution and be sure to follow the directions on fireworks packaging,” says Deputy Fire Chief Matt Hepditch. “Only adults over the age of 18 who are aware of the hazards and exercising caution should handle and discharge fireworks.”
Are you a business owner looking to sell fireworks? Businesses/retailers operating a Consumer Fireworks Sales Business must hold a valid City of London municipal business licence. Once a licence has been approved and issued, fireworks sales are permitted on and 5 days before Victoria Day (Monday, May 20). Contact licensing@london.ca to obtain more information.
Planning a backyard fireworks display? Weather conditions should always be taken into consideration and a water hose or pail of water should be kept close by. Fireworks are never permitted to be discharged in City parks or on streets.
London Fire Department Inspectors and Municipal Compliance Officers will be active in our community enforcing the by-law.

In the event of fire or personal injury that requires immediate medical attention, residents are reminded to call 9-1-1.
