As part of this project, the Mornington stormwater management pond will be expanded on both the west and east side to help protect nearby properties from flooding and erosion. Crews will also be replacing the watermain, storm sewer, and sanitary sewer near the pond where many of the current pipes in the area are more than 100 years old and made of outdated materials. These upgrades will help improve the health of the Thames River.
An expanded park area will then be created to the east of the existing pond featuring pathways and benches along with new trees and plants.
Through a combination of landscape and structural features, the stormwater management pond collects water from rain, snow, and ice melt to release it into rivers and creeks at a safe and controlled rate. Stormwater ponds also help keep sediment and contaminants from flowing downstream.
In addition, the City will be reconstructing Salisbury Street from Quebec Street to Glasgow Street, Glasgow Street from Salisbury Street to Connaught Avenue, and Connaught Avenue from Glasgow Street to the west entrance of McCormick Park to improve the quality and reliability of the area’s water, sewer, and road infrastructure.
The Mornington stormwater management pond expansion project is one of London’s Top 10 construction projects this year identified in the City’s Renew London construction program.
The above map shows the project limits. Modifications will be made to the existing Mornington Stormwater Management Pond, and include expanding the pond to the east and west to provide more stormwater capacity in the area.
