The City is reconstructing Brydges Street from Egerton Street to Highbury Avenue North, all of Muir Street, and all of Swinyard Street to improve the quality and reliability of water, sewer and road infrastructure. Much of the current infrastructure is over 70 years old, made of outdated materials such as cast iron and concrete, and has reached the end of its lifespan.

Phase Two of construction is expected to start in spring 2022 and last until fall 2022.

As part of this project, the City will also replace the sidewalk and construct new on-road bicycle lanes on Brydges Street. This work will also include the elimination of on-street parking on Brydges Street from Egerton Street to Highbury Avenue North.

The Brydges Street project is one of London’s Top 10 construction projects this year identified in the City’s Renew London construction program.

The above map shows the project limits during Phases One and Two of construction. In Phase One, The City of London will be reconstructing Brydges Street, from Egerton Street to Childers Street as well as Swinyard and Muir Streets in their entirety. In Phase Two, The City will be reconstructing Brydges Street from Childers Street to Highbury Avenue North.

The work

Streetscape elements to be installed or replaced include:

• two new on-road bike lanes on Brydges Street from Egerton Street to Highbury Avenue North
• sidewalks and concrete curbs
• elimination of on-street parking on Brydges Street from Egerton Street to Highbury Avenue North
• a new asphalt road surface

Vital underground infrastructure upgrades include:

• replacing the watermain and water services to property line
• separating the existing combined sewer, installing a new storm sewer and replacing the current sanitary sewers
• partially replacing existing private drain connections

Advance construction

Ahead of this project, the City will complete the following work:

• four trees will be removed during this construction work and new trees will be planted the following year by the City.
