Emergency Management Citizen’s Academy is returning with four new opportunities for Londoners to learn firsthand about emergency management programs in their community. Students participate in classroom sessions facilitated by staff from the City of London’s Corporate Security and Emergency Management division.
“Our first Citizen’s Academy was launched in 2019 to gauge the community’s interest in connecting with the City’s emergency management programs,” says Henry Klausnitzer, Manager of Emergency Management at the City of London. “We were very happy with the response, and have created four new upcoming sessions to meet the demand.”
Participants will tour the City’s Emergency Operations Centre, learn what to include in a 72 hour emergency kit, and how to identify and respond to potential hazards. Participants leave the program with tools and information that they can share with their community, family, and friends.
“The program is particularly engaging to anyone who volunteers in the community, or is a member of a local community association, group, or organization,” says Klausnitzer.
The next Citizen’s Academy takes place on February 6, 2020 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Emergency Operations Centre.
Registration is free and open until Monday, February 3, 2020. Londoners can register by contacting Amy Leggate at aleggate@london.ca.
Citizen’s Academy will take place on the following dates this year:
February 6, 2020
April 30, 2020
