Londoners show Heart with generous donations to the 16th Annual London Cares Curbside Food Drive

The London Food Bank now has 68,600 pounds of additional food on its shelves thanks to the generosity of Londoners who donated to the 16th Annual London Cares Curbside Food Drive.
Also included in the totals are 4,470 pounds of corporate donations and 11,230 pounds collected from Tim Hortons and grocery stores.

"The Food Bank wishes to acknowledge the tremendous generosity of Londoners," says Jane Roy, Co-Executive Director of the London Food Bank. "We've seen a 20 percent increase in the number of families relying on the Food Bank this year and the London Cares Curbside Food Drive has helped to ensure that our Food Bank shelves are stocked for the summer months when regular donations tend to slow down."

After a very slow start and a "call to action" from the Food Bank, local media and City staff, contributions began to increase at grocery stores and Tim Hortons drop-off locations, and in the remaining areas of the city that had not had the volunteer pickup. The highest amount in 16 years came through the grocery stores and Tim Hortons.

"A food drive of this scale and the important awareness that it brings can only be achieved by working together," says Jay Stanford, Director, Environmental Programs & Solid Waste. "This Food Drive is a true partnership between businesses, organizations, media, City of London staff and, of course, the many Londoners who make it all possible. Our thanks are also extended to a number of corporations that chose to help out including Amway, Davis+Henderson and Laser Sales."

The running total for one of Canada's most unique food drives has now collected almost 1,070,000 pounds in 16 years of helping to support the great work of staff and volunteers at the London Food Bank.
